WHY HAS MY DOCTOR REQUESTED THIS INVESTIGATION?
Typically your medical practitioner will order a 24-hour ECG recording if you have been having palpitations (a sensation of abnormal or irregular heartbeat) or symptoms of dizziness or lightheadedness.
By recording your ECG continuously for 24 hours, it is much more probable that a successful diagnosis can be made. Your doctor can then decide if treatment is required.
A Holter recording is also typically ordered when an individual has had a stroke or episodes of stroke symptoms (known as a transient ischaemic attack or TIA) which may occur in people who have an irregular heart rhythm known as atrial fibrillation.
